Tape was to be made even thinner for reaching media of 120 meters. Therefore the thickness of Maxell DDS2 media was lowered to 6.9µm and that of DDS1 was 90µm. The evolution of the Maxell DDS-3 tape technology was a great jump in the DDS tape format’s history with three times more capacity than the previous version of DDS. 12GB capacity of Maxell DDS3 format was result of two improvements in key media. First improvement was MP+ formulation with higher version of coercivity than DDS2 media and increase in the length of media to 125 meters. The linear bit density was also increased to 122 KB pi with the help of MP++ tape media. There was also made significant enhancement in the non media technology of Maxell DDS-3 technology. Its capacity was further increased by the channel reading technology of PRML (partial response maximum likelihood). That is why the Maxell DDS3 tape technology is more durable, enduring, resilient and efficient.
