What is it that computer repair shops use to speed up slow running computers ? We are just trying to free up some more system resources, being as how we only have a single core processor, and over gb of ram. Hope someone can help us out with this, Thankyou very much ….
In lieu of typing a lot just look at this article it tells you how.

You don’t give enough information on your pc to give a definitive answer. However, what they would do is to give it a factory reset if your pc is late enough to have a partitioned O.S. But before you proceed you must save to a disk/ mem stick all your files you wish to keep. The reason for this as the hard drive is purged all info placed there other than what the manufacture installed will be removed.
Assuming XP O.S. Within partition. You’ll have no worries…this won’t work if you haven’t a partition, so give it a go….First switch off the offending pc completely.
Now switch on, immediately and continuously tap F11, or hold it down (This F number can vary (e.g. F12) with manufacture)
This will bring up, as the pc whines up, initially the factory reset page
Select the top option “a complete destructive reset”. The complete Factory reset option is what you want, don’t be shy, and don’t partially do the job.
Press okay…Don’t be nervous, answer a couple of question (e.g. English etc…yes)
It’ll then say something like, “this might take a couple of hours” go for that.
Now go make a coffee, come back in 30 mins and it’s as originally received, just outta the box.
You should install soonest a reputable antivirus program (Norton) and leave the pc on-line over night to auto up-date, this is can be time consuming, and best done whilst you’re asleep.
Good luck
PS if you’ve vista try F7

Use a good PC optimizer and Registry cleaner such as Reginout to make your computer faster

THEY DO NOT HAVE ANYTHING SPEICIAL
everycar needs a service after so many miles
same with a computer all they are doing is the same
follow the instructions below and you will not belive how quicker your computer runs
Just switch on your computer as normal, then when it has finished starting up
press control and alt and delete keys so the task manager screen comes on
now click on the performance tab watch the graph for a while so you can see
how hard the processor is working
1 to 4 % is good and normal when no programs are running
any higher like 20 to 30 or 60 % then your computer will be slow and cause you
problems
if the reading is high then what this means is that there is a program or more running all the time so your computer is working hard already .
now click on the processes tab and see what process is using all your processing power, you might recognise it.
If you right click on it and then click on end process do not worry about the warning then go back to the performance tab to see if the performance has gone down
If it has then that is the one or ones that’s slowing down the computer
Then
Go to start
Go to run
Type in msconfig
Then click run
Click on the start-up tab only
All the programs that have a tick in the box will start up with the computer and make it slower. un tick any programs you do not want to start with the computer at start-up
99% of them can be un ticked with no problem
it will make no difference to the programs all you are doing is turning them off till you want them
The more you can un tick the faster your computer will boot up and run
Do not un tick your anti virus program or firewall
There is a free program called win patrol free version just type the name into google that does it better than windows does
just use the start up tab the same way to stop programs running at start up
if you do this then do a defrag then download ccleaner and run that you will have a different computer
you will be more than happy and you have not done have of what you could do to service your computer

The 3 key areas would be registry clean/defrag, hard drive defrag and cache/temp file removal. First one needs a specialist tool and the second 2 you can do in Windows.
